The Marvelous Wonderettes

The off-Broadway hit The Marvelous Wonderettes is taking its act on the road. First stop: Blytheville.
The curtain will rise on this fun-filled musical one night only at The Ritz Theater, 306 W. Main, at 7 p.m. Friday, March 15.
Presented by the Arts Council of Mississippi County, in association with Hyperion Productions of New York and Springer Theatricals, the show offers live performances of some of your favorite hits from the 50s and 60s.
The show opens in 1958 on four Springfield High School students performing a show for their classmates on prom night:
While Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy are good friends, a competitive theme emerges when all four girls are announced as candidates for Prom Queen. To keep everyone on their toes, at the end of Act One, the audience votes for their favorite girl as they decide who will be Prom Queen 1958.
Act Two fast-forwards to 1968 as they are whisked away to the girls’ ten year reunion – older, wiser and a little bruised by the upheavals of the Rock Revolution. The Wonderettes perform high-octane and soulful renditions of classic ‘60’s tunes, and we see how their friendships have changed and endured in this captivating Off-Broadway hit. The show features 30 classic songs of the 50’s and 60’s including Lollipop, Stupid Cupid, Lipstick On Your Collar, Mr. Lee, It’s My Party, Wedding Bell Blues, Leader of the Pack, R.E.S.P.E.C.T., Rescue Me and Son of a Preacher Man.
In addition to Friday night’s performance, The Arts Council of Mississippi County will host its “Annual Spring Gala Reception” will be held at the Chamber of Commerce office, 300 W. Walnut, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Advance ticket holders, as well as Arts Council patrons and corporate sponsors, will have an opportunity to meet some of the performers.
Advance tickets are available at The Ritz for $15. The cost is $20 on the night of the show. Children 12 and under can attend free with an adult.
