2014-2015 Series
Great Entertainment Planned by Arts Council
The Arts Council of Mississippi County is pleased to announce the programs scheduled for the 2014-2015 Series. Music offerings will include everything from bluegrass to big band. The stage will also host a fantastic family Christmas musical experience, an off-Broadway professional touring show, and a delightful event featuring singing and dancing giant puppets.
The Series will begin with an evening of outstanding bluegrass. The opening act will be the “The Charles Moody String Band” featuring the talents of Charles Moody, Dale Hinson. Dr. Mark Fowler and Brett Sparks. Then the headliners, a young group from Georgia, will take over with more foot-tapping, hand clapping music. This group is known as “BlueRoad,” and consists of five extremely talented young men, all of whom are award winners on their particular instrument. When they come together it is magic, and a whole lot of fun. This would be a great opportunity for someone who is not already a fan of this genre to try it out. We can guarantee you will enjoy all of these talented folks. This program will be Saturday, August 16, 2014, at 7:00 PM.
In December we will have an opportunity to welcome the chamber orchestra “Forum Sinfonia” from Krakow, Poland. This international touring group will delight us with a wonderful concert of great holiday melodies sure to please. Watch for further possible developments with this show. You can be sure that the entire evening will be an experience to be shared with family and friends of all ages as we celebrate the holidays on Monday, December 1, 2014, at 7:00 PM.
Reza the Illusionist will be returning to the Ritz on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 7:00 PM. Hailed as the Nation’s Top Touring Illusionist, Reza AKA “Rock Star of Illusion”, is intriguing, engaging and captivating. He has the ability to connect with his audiences and let them feel his magic on a personal level. He isn’t just a magician. He is an entertainer. He has sold out venues from Denver to New York, Orlando to Los Angeles, entertaining millions as well as being featured on television and radio in 31 countries around the World.
Springer Theatricals will grace our stage with a national touring production of the delightful off-Broadway musical “Della’s Diner.” When the heroine and diner owner, Della, discovers that her beloved Morning Glory Mountain is, in reality, a secret nuclear waste dump, it makes her other troubles (like being married to two men, having a grandson in reform school, a best friend in prison, and an uncontrollable daughter) all seem like business as usual. Full of non-stop surprises, twists and turns, a talented cast and a wonderful musical score, this will fill the evening with fun. This event will be preceded by our Annual Gala Meet the Artists Reception before the show, and will be on Friday, April 10, 2015, at 7:00 PM.
Our annual spring children’s musical will feature the return of the nine-foot-tall puppets from Bits N Pieces Puppet Theater. They will present the story of “Rip Van Winkle” by American author Washington Irving. With puppets of all shapes and sizes, great costumes, fun music and all sorts of special effects, this show will entertain and delight adults as well as children. Enjoy this program on Friday, April 17, 2015, at 6:30 PM.
In addition to our Series programs we are currently working out the details to present the U.S. Army Field Band in concert the evening of Monday, October 20, 2014. This unit of the Army is based in Washington, D.C. and tours the country and the world representing our military and our nation. They are just as comfortable performing in a foreign military installation for our troops as they are performing in some of the finest recital halls in our nation. U.S. Army Field Band Concert will take place at the Mississippi County Fairgrounds: Monday, October 20th, at 6:30 PM: Free Admission: Outdoors--Bring lawn chair or blanket
